Old slowdown animation canceled sprinting

Sprinting cancels out when pressing A or D (move right / move left), as seen in the video linked below (I rarely play 1.21 so this could very well be a vanilla feature although it makes no sense)

    Disable the setting that I highlighted in the screenshot and then the sprinting will no longer be cancelled when trying to sprint diagonal.
