1.8.9 doesn't have a setting to change audio output by default, which is annoying, because if a speaker disconnects, you can't change it to use a separate set of speakers unless you change it in your OS and then restart Minecraft.

I propose a request for an addon that allows you to change your speaker output in the "options->music & sounds" menu. It could look somewhat like this:
